	Sacred Fire is a light installation utilizing the medium of neon to explore fire as an archetypal element of transformation and rebirth. The work functions as a contemporary altar and performative space—inviting ritual, music, dance, and the manifestation of intention.

Since time immemorial, fire has held a central place in the mythologies, spiritual practices, and symbolic systems of cultures across the globe. It is a force of purification, change, and inspiration, yet also a reminder of the fragility of human achievement. As the first and only natural source of light that humankind has learned to control, fire has played a fundamental role in the evolution of civilization—enabling survival in harsh conditions, making cooking possible, and fostering communal life.

This installation does not merely reference fire’s historical and cultural significance; it also questions its role in our present reality—an age marked by ecological instability, technological saturation, and a collective reawakening of spiritual consciousness. Sacred Fire&#38;nbsp;becomes a space for contemplation and inner transformation, a site where the elemental and the personal converge.

Through its luminous presence and immersive atmosphere, the work reactivates the ancient function of fire as a catalyst for connection, renewal, and transcendence. It offers more than visual experience—it invites engagement with the primal forces that continue to shape both our inner worlds and the shared narratives of human existence.

Created for my PhD exhibition in November 2024 in Prague, Sacred Fire was utilized in ceremonies, concerts, dance workshops, prayers, and a variety of conscious works, embracing the spirit of ritual and transformation.

MgA. Marek Šilpoch
Marek’s work naturally oscillates between fine art and design, distinguished by a sensitive approach to light, glass, graphic design, photography, and video. His practice is deeply rooted in craftsmanship and manual work, which he understands not merely as a technical process, but as a way of thinking and perceiving the world. Through the transformation of found and often obsolete objects, Marek creates new pieces layered with meaning, responding thoughtfully to both space and context. His installations foster a dialogue between aesthetics and function, material and light, design and art.

Consciously defying traditional categorization, Marek does not identify strictly as either an artist or a designer. This deliberate ambiguity gives rise to an open, interdisciplinary practice where experimentation, craftsmanship, and conceptual thinking naturally converge.

He is a co-founder of the Prague-based audiovisual collective XYZ Project, through which he has contributed to a number of site-specific projects. As a freelance creator, he works across various disciplines—as a graphic designer, photographer, and light artist. Between 2018 and 2021, he served as a curator for the international Signal Festival. Currently, he is focusing on his personal artistic practice and diploma studies, seeking sustainable approaches to working with light and material, while developing a visual language inspired by sci-fi aesthetics, symbolism, and historical context.

Through his work, Marek continuously explores themes of sustainability, personal development, and a deeper understanding of human existence in today’s world—including the evolving relationship between humanity and nature.

The End of BeginningÚstí nad Labem House of Arts(CZ)14. 4. – 20. 5. 2022
	There are no new beginnings without endings. The exhibition focused on important questions regarding my work and its further development. It was a reflection of my own achievements and a retrospective look at my work. Thanks to the dialogues with the professors, I was able to move further and clarify some of the paths that my work contained.
